Update: Information regarding Garbage

West Central Sanitation will be sending out an informational letter this week to all Madelia residential homes. Included with the letter will be a prepaid postcard with the sizes and pre-tax prices of the garbage bins. You will choose which size best suites your household and mail back to WSC by July 25th. They will be delivering the bins at the end of July.

They were kind enough to drop off a bin of each size at City Hall for the community to see. So please feel free to stop in this week to take a look at them if you prefer a “look and see” before deciding.

If you DO NOT mail the postcard back, they will automatically drop off the medium sized bin (65 gallon) this will be noted on the postcard.

Garbage will continue to be billed on your utility billing as it has been done in the past.

Madelia’s New Garbage Service

As many already know, after decades of serving Madelia, Jerry and Sandy Urban of Madelia Sanitation have recently sold their business to West Central Sanitation out of Willmar MN.  So, with a new garbage service comes change.

West Central Sanitation will be sending out a mailing to all residential Madelia customers who currently pay for garbage service in the next couple weeks. In that mailing, each household will have the option to choose which size garbage canister is best suitable for their needs. The City of Madelia will continue to bill you on your utility billing based on the size of the garbage receptacle you have.

They are projecting receptacle delivery towards the end of July. So it is very important that you return your choice to them as soon as possible once you receive your mailing.

For now, you will continue to use the orange bags/stickers as we always have.

Dumpsters:

Effective immediately, City Hall will no longer be taking dumpster requests. If you are in need of a dumpster, or have a dumpster that is ready to be picked up you will need to call West Central Sanitation directly at 1-800-246-7630. They will take your request over the phone and collect payment at that time.  You also have the option to request a dumpster online via their website.

Appliances and other items:

If you have any appliances or other items that need to be thrown, you will reach out to WSC directly. They will have certain rates for each item and a separate collection day.

We will continue to share more information as it becomes available. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please reach out to WSC.
