PUBLIC NOTICE: CONSTRUCTION ON MAIN STREET

Subject: Notice of Construction on Main Street – Starting Monday, September 15

GM will begin construction on the Main Street section starting Monday, September 15. While we recognize this work will create significant disruptions to commuting, parking, and business access in the area, completing this section in 2025 will help avoid further construction impacts on Main Street in 2026.

Key Impacts:

  • Main Street access to Sunshine Foods will be closed.
    However, Center Avenue access will remain open for customers and deliveries.

  • Sidewalk access will remain open to the following businesses (see map below for details):

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to improve infrastructure in the area.

PARKING:

We kindly ask that individuals without mobility issues park farther from their destination when possible, to help ensure that those with ambulatory or accessibility needs have closer, more convenient access.

SCHOOL COMMUTING:

If your child walks or bikes to school, please discuss alternative routes that avoid Main Street. The safety of our children and community is our top priority.


Construction Timeline:

  • Estimated duration: 50 working days

  • Goal for hard surface completion: By October 24 (pending favorable weather, and no unforeseen construction issues)

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to improve this important area of our community. Please stay alert for detour signs and ongoing updates.

City of Madelia – Garbage Bag/Sticker Buy-Back Announcement

City of Madelia – Garbage Bag/Sticker Buy-Back Announcement

The City of Madelia, in partnership with West Central Sanitation, is pleased to offer two limited-time buy-back dates in September for any unused orange garbage bags or stickers purchased prior to the recent garbage service transition.

If you—or someone you know, such as a friend, neighbor, or family member—purchased bulk orange garbage bags or stickers before West Central Sanitation began service, please stop by City Hall during regular business hours on one of the following dates:

  • Thursday, September 11

  • Tuesday, September 23

These are the only two dates the buy-back option will be available.

Garbage Service Reminder

A friendly reminder that beginning August 4th, all residential garbage pickup will take place on Monday’s.

  • Carts should be to the curb by 6AM to avoid being missed.
  • As noted in the letter from West Central Sanitation: If you requested a 65-gallon cart and do not receive it by Friday August 1st, please use bags/stickers for Monday August 4th pick up. If you have not received a cart by Thursday, August 7th, please call WCS.
  • You no longer need to buy orange bags or stickers for trash put inside your cart.
  • You will be billed as normal on your monthly utility billing based on the size of the cart you requested.
  • The calendar below will also be included with July’s utility billing.
