Notice to all Madelia Residents

Because of our recent rain storm, our sewage treatment facility may become overloaded causing sewage to backup into the homes. We ask that you do not discharge your sump pump into the City’s Sanitary Sewer System at this time. All sump pumps need to be piped to the exterior of the home. Thank you!

Building Permit Notice

All building projects, including driveway slabs, sidewalks, and landscaping, MUST have a building permit with the City of Madelia. The Water Supervisor maintains all curbs stops (City Code §50.02). If curb stops are covered or damaged from any type of landscape or cement work, it will be at the owner’s expense for any repairs or replacements. Stops are supposed to be even with the ground or cement – if not, they are a tripping hazard! Also, be sure to call before you dig – Gopher State One Call: 800-252-1166.

Building Permit application forms can be found on our website or at City Hall.

Grass Clippings Notice

Please do not blow the clippings into the street.

When mowing your lawn, make the first few passes with the lawnmower blowing the grass clippings into the lawn not the street. If there are grass clippings on the street or sidewalk, use a broom or leaf blower to blow them back into the lawn. Do not use a hose to wash them into the street or storm drains. Keeping your leaves and lawn clippings out of the streets and gutters will prevent clogging of the storm sewers and have significant benefits for your local lakes and streams.

Thank you for your cooperation!
