Veteran’s Park is located at the West end of our beautiful downtown; West Main Street and Benzel Ave SW.
The park was dedicated on June 9, 2007 and was made possible by donations. Gloria Eager started the process to make the park happen. With the help of the VFW, American Legion, and American Legion Auxiliary, they formed the Madelia Veteran’s Memorial Board. From there, they began fundraising. Initially, they had hoped to raise $60,000 in three years. Instead, they were able to meet their goal in a little more than a year. $25,000 was used for the actual granite monument, $15,000 was spent on landscaping and $10,000 was set aside at that time for general upkeep. They received several large donations and also applied for and received a grant.

For more than two centuries, American’s have been called to defend the founding ideals of our democracy.
We have taken this area of hallowed ground and dedicated it to the more than one million Americans who have died to preserve our freedom, the more than 140,000 citizens who were prisoners of war and all those who were declared missing in action. In addition to the millions who have honorably served out Nation in time of war and the time of peace.
All of America’s Veterans have placed our Nation’s security before their own lives, creating a debt that we can never fully repay. As we recall the service of our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guard, whether at home or abroad, we are reminded that the defense of freedom comes with great loss of life and sacrifice of body and soul.
With respect for and in recognition of the contributions our service men and women have made not only to our nation but to our communities, we solemnly dedicate this park in honor of those who have served our Nation.
As a grateful community we recognize the Veterans by establishing a park in the heart of our City as Veterans Memorial Park and ask those who visit this park to take the time to remember in prayer and gratitude, the sacrifices made by all America’s Veterans.
