Watona Park
The Watona Park is located in the south central part of Madelia along the Watonwan River. The park has a painting on the eastside that was done by a high school student several years ago. The soft ball and baseball diamonds are located in the center of the park. A playground and soccer field are also nearby.
Within the park we have a small stone shelter used for gatherings of many sorts. The stone shelter also has a large fire ring that was built by the WPA. Reservations for the shelter may be done by contacting the City of Madelia.
The Watonwan River, home of many fish, has a canoe launching pad that is used regularly. There is a playground that was installed by our local Women of Today with the help of volunteers from the community. Sand volleyball courts are available for use near the playground. A disc golf course runs throughout the park and is used by many people.
Our campground at the park is used throughout the spring, summer, and fall months. We have a variety of camping accommodations including electrical, water, and sewer hookups as well as tenting sites.
Access to the Madelia Golf Course is on the west side of the park.
In the winter the park is used for cross country skiing and some snowmobile activity.
We are very lucky to experience the beauty of the Watona Park and encourage others to visit.

The City is currently taking on a Master Park Plan for Watona Park to identify how to provide desired community amenities outside the floodplain to lower maintenance and damage costs. Stay up to date here!
