RECYCLING SHED

Watonwan County Recycling is located on Joy Ave SW at the entrance of the Madelia Compost site. Please follow the guidelines as posted from Watonwan County Land Management. This drop site is for RURAL Madelia residents. All in town residents/businesses should already have their own containers. If you do not, please contact West Central Sanitation, 1-800-246-7630 so they can assist you with what you need.

Please do your part in assisting us to keep the area clean and tidy. All cardboard should be broken down prior to placing it in the container to allow the containers to be used to their fullest.

The recycling shed will be emptied every Friday. If the containers are visibly full, we ask that you wait until they have been emptied before you drop your items off. There should, at no time, be any items left outside of the containers.

This is not a garbage drop-off. Therefore, any other items are prohibited and violators will be ticketed.

Please forward any questions/concerns to Watonwan County Land Management.

Water Restrictions

Due to the current abnormally dry conditions, the City of Madelia Water Department is experiencing unusually high-water usage. The water filtration plant has been working in overdrive.

The very high-water usage numbers have been determined to be from above normal water sprinkling usage. The water system is not designed for the flows that have occurred over the recent weeks. Due to this fact, the City of Madelia will be imposing lawn irrigation restrictions as follows:

1. Lawn irrigation systems will ONLY be allowed to run for even numbered addresses on even dates.
2. Lawn irrigation systems will ONLY be allowed to run for odd numbered addresses on odd dates.
3. No irrigation system will be allowed to run between the hours of 10:00AM and 6:00PM. It has been scientifically proven that watering during this time is not effective as the water evaporates before it can do any good.
4. Exceptions will be made for freshly seeded grass or freshly laid sod with in the last 30 days ONLY with communications to City Hall. Any grass seed and/or sod laid prior to 30 days should be well established and does not require daily watering.
5. Violations of these restrictions will be discussed with property owners in person, if possible, with a mailed violation notice to follow. After one violation, fines will be implemented.
6. These restrictions will continue until further notice.

NOTICE

Effective March 15th, 2023, City Hall will begin charging customers who fail to update their address with us. This amount will be added to your monthly billing under address service fees. You will be charged $5.00 PLUS postage. This comes due to City Hall being charged by the Postal Service for any address changes. To avoid being charged, please be sure to contact us for any address updates/changes.

This will be an agenda item for the March 13th Council Meeting.
