Housing is a critical need in Madelia. To help cover the affordability gap between building costs and affordable prices, the City of Madelia EDA has established the following programs. The EDA also owns discounted land in our Riverview Heights subdivision. Contact us today if you’re interested in these lots or any of our programs.
A countywide Housing Study will kick off Fall 2025 and be finalized February 2026. The City of Madelia and St James will each have dedicated chapters, in addition to the overall County statistics.

The Multifamily Housing Loan Program encourages the development of multi-family housing in the City of Madelia by providing low-interest loans to property owners and developers for duplexes, triplexes, and apartment buildings.

Tax Abatement
Check out the Madelia Tax Abatement Program. Refunds on property taxes can be used to support the development of new multifamily units, including duplexes, triplexes, and multi-family complexes.
