Our annual Fall hydrant flushing is scheduled to begin the week of 10/14/2024. Flushing fire hydrants and water mains is part of a routine maintenance necessary to maintain the water system and remove sediment from lines. The process of flushing the water system may result in low water pressure, cloudy or discolored water during the days the system is being flushed. The discolored water is not dangerous to your health. Please be aware of the water quality while doing laundry or other tasks that require rust free water.
Resident Tips during Hydrant Flushing:
- Avoid using washing machine during times of hydrant flushing.
- If discolored water occurs, simply run the cold water for a few minutes until it clears. This will allow the sediment to work through your pipes.
- In some cases, the discoloration may linger for a few hours. This discoloration of the water only affects the appearance and does not affect the water quality.
- If water pressure remains low after the flushing has been completed, check your faucet screens or any water filters for trapped particles.
- If the problem persists, please contact Public Works.
