Due to the current abnormally dry conditions, the City of Madelia Water Department is experiencing unusually high-water usage. The water filtration plant has been working in overdrive.

The very high-water usage numbers have been determined to be from above normal water sprinkling usage. The water system is not designed for the flows that have occurred over the recent weeks. Due to this fact, the City of Madelia will be imposing lawn irrigation restrictions as follows:

1. Lawn irrigation systems will ONLY be allowed to run for even numbered addresses on even dates.
2. Lawn irrigation systems will ONLY be allowed to run for odd numbered addresses on odd dates.
3. No irrigation system will be allowed to run between the hours of 10:00AM and 6:00PM. It has been scientifically proven that watering during this time is not effective as the water evaporates before it can do any good.
4. Exceptions will be made for freshly seeded grass or freshly laid sod with in the last 30 days ONLY with communications to City Hall. Any grass seed and/or sod laid prior to 30 days should be well established and does not require daily watering.
5. Violations of these restrictions will be discussed with property owners in person, if possible, with a mailed violation notice to follow. After one violation, fines will be implemented.
6. These restrictions will continue until further notice.
