For years, Madelia has been the proud home of the Department of Natural Resources Research Station, responsible for pheasant studies, brood counts and habitat information. Madelia has also been the proud home of many hunters, from all backgrounds and of all ages.
When you speak with veteran hunters around Madelia, you hear stories about how great things were several years back; stories about how hotels were overbooked for months and how grandfathers would hunt with sons and grandsons on the pheasant hunting opener each and every year.
As time passes, things undoubtedly change. One thing that has remained the same, however, is the passion and tradition of Pheasant Hunting in Madelia. In an effort to revitalize and continue this passion and tradition, the City of Madelia, Madelia Chamber of Commerce and the Madelia Sportsmen’s Club created Pheasant Phest in 2009 as a community celebration. We continue this tradition in 2011
Pheasant Fest is focused around the pheasant hunting opening weekend, and invites hunters and non-hunters alike to join in on the fun and festivities. Pheasant Phest ’11 begins with a youth and adult trap shoot Friday afternoon and moves into the official Pheasant Phest Kickoff Party, at Goodfellaz Grill and Bar II. Saturday Morning begins with a Madelia Fire Department Pancake Breakfast, and then it’s off to the hunt.
